Motivations

The autumn term 2009 saw the debut of the new and improved ‘Motivations’ programme. It is a 12 week course working with year 9 pupils from 3 of the local schools (and we are hoping to increase the amount of schools involved). Young people are referred on to the programme by their teachers and attend once a week during school hours.
The programme aims to increase self esteem, confidence and motivation. The course does this by engaging young people in a series of workshops and activities that provide them with time, space and knowledge to take on the world!
Over a single term pupils take part in selected workshops from the following list:
- Anger Management
- Communication Skills
- Sexual Health
- Decision Making
- Conflict Resolution
- Drug and Alcohol Awareness
- Team Building
- Identity/Diversity
- Stop Smoking
- Relationships
- Crime and consequences
- And many more...
Also, pupils will achieve an accreditation in one of the following activities of their choice:
- Rock Climbing
- Mountain Biking
- Power Boating
- Canoeing
- Street Dance
- Kayaking
- Music Production
- Animation
- Film Making
- Urban Art
- DJ-ing/MC-ing
- And many more...
Workshops and activities take place in a combination of places including in a classroom, at a youth club, up a rope or even in a boat! All sessions are run by youth workers (not teachers) and qualified tutors/instructors. All we ask is that when pupils choose to participate they do so with an open mind and a smile.
NEW FOR 2010!
Motivations now features a residential aspect to the programme where pupils will be taken away for one night and take part in lots of activities at a residential centre, this will take place at the end of week 4.
For more information about Motivations, speak to a teacher or a youth worker, find out if we are working with your school! Who knows? You may end up on the programme!
