European Youth Initiative
Romania
In August 2008, a group of young people were given the chance to sample a new culture and see what life is like for young people living in Romania, a country that has only recently joined the European Union and is still recovering from the effects of communism.
Experience
The effort to organise the two-week long trip was rewarded by the life-changing and surprising experience gained. The MAP group not only learned more about other people living in Romania, they learnt a lot about themselves through comparison.
The group visited various parts of Romania including Bucharest, Bacau, Godinesti and Brasov where they visited youth centres, met young people and had fun as well as gaining insight into the lives of those in another culture.
You can read more about the experiences of the MAP group in Romania in issue 9 of Youth Unlimited magazine.

Romania: Making Adventure Possible
Read the Romania article in Issue 9 of Youth Unlimited."They loved the sports equipment we’d bought with us; volleyballs, tennis rackets and, of course, the Magicool spray and hand gel. They looked at us as if we were from a different world, but a world they longed to see."
