Youth Creating Change

In the week after coming back we have turned our attention from each other and the group, to Ghana and the partner organisation we’ll be working for there, the YCC – a non-profit organisation for the communities and youths of Ghana standing for Youth Creating Change. We’ve been discussing both what us coming to Ghana will mean to them, what they can learn from us and what we want to do for them, to what they mean to the community and what we can learn from them – ostrich racing coming up more than once.
One thing we have wanted to do is teach – IT skills, sex education, maths, science – whilst others want to compare our cultures such as music and the slang we use. Others of us wanted to learn such skills as fishing, and to be able to come back and say: “I can cook a Ghanaian cuisine!”
We’ll continue discussing the YCC next week, and after Christmas we’ll hand in our personal fundraising and discover who are the 12 who will be going to Ghana and who is on the reserves list. We’re all dreading finding out that four people won’t definitely be going to Ghana, but Melissa has told us that a personal target for the group can be to try and raise enough money for everyone to go on the trip. Although this could be difficult, our group is already so close that we are certainly going to try our best!
