Safer Neighbourhoods

Safer Neighbourhoods - Local Police, Local Knowledge
You may have noticed a more visible local police presence in your community, and this is thanks to Safer Neighbourhoods. It's all about local teams of Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) who help the community by keeping the streets safe and tackling issues in the neighbourhood. They also give the residents a familar face to recognise and interact with.

Safer Neighbourhoods Teams

A Safer Neighbourhoods Team consisting of a Police Sergeant, two Police Officers and three PCSOsThe Borough of Kingston is divded between 16 wards, and each ward has it's own Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT). Each team takes their own responsibilities for their area of Kingston.

Each SNT consists of one Police Sergeant, two Police Officers and three PCSOs.

In addition, now there are Safer Transport teams that deal with bus and train routes.

To find out who's in your local SNT and how to contact them, visit the Kingston Safer Neighbourhoods page on the Met Police site (link at the bottom of the page).

Working with you

Your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team is available for you if you have any concerns about your area. They spend most of their time out on patrol in your local neighbourhood, identifying and dealing with crimes and issues which you tell them give you concern. On a regular basis, they visit youth clubs, schools and scout groups.

The main aim of the SNTs is to help out with any problems and improve connections between themselves and local residents. They work towards resolving longer-term issues that don't just require an immediate police response.

If you require an emergency response, you should dial 999 as this is the role of Response team officers.
