Safe Driving Project

The Youth Support Service offers a project on Safe Driving for young people aged 16 plus. Based at Dickerage Adventure Playground, the project runs for 2 hours per week over a course of 8-10 weeks.
Using a computerised Driving Simulator, the project allows young people to gain skills, knowledge and experience on all aspects of road safety.
The Driving simulator gives the experience of driving on town and country roads, as well as on a motorway. Users undertake emergency stops and practise hazard awareness and avoidance, as well as looking at the impact of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The project helps prepare young people for driving lessons as well as seeing road safety from a difference perspective.
As well as hands on use with the simulator, the project includes workshops covering the varying aspects of driving and road safety, as well as giving young people feedback and guidance on how to improve performance.
All young people attending the project will have the opportunity of gaining an AQA in Safe Driving, as well as completing the Driving Theory Test.
