The Cadets

Want to know what being in the Kingston Police Cadets is like? Find out from the Cadets! Here are their perspectives and recollections of their experiences from 2010:

Kingston Police Cadets 1Ashley Cooper

18 years old

I have been a cadet for 12 months and have recently applied to become a Special Constable. I was a member of the team that represented Kingston VPC at the Annual Cadet Competition at Hendon Training Centre in July 2010 and Iron Man, where we camped out on one of the coldest October nights for 17 years and came 4th overall for our trouble.

I was selected to take part in a North Wales Exercise where I was a mentor for students with special educational needs from St Philip's School in Chessington.

"The whole experience is a memory that will last a lifetime. Come on and join up!"
I have made great friends and we all have the same future plans to join the Police Service. I have learnt to be independent and gained lots of confidence in my ability to achieve my dreams.

Kingston Police Cadets 2Lily Fenner

16 years old

I have been a cadet for 10 months and I was selected to take part in a North Wales Exercise where I was a mentor for students with special educational needs from St Philip's School in Chessington. This experience was fantastic and this has helped me build stronger relationships with the other cadets that were on the same trip.

I iron and polish my own uniform before each parade evening. We are inspected by the staff and awarded points towards the team's overall total.

I have learnt many new skills, made lots of new friends, gained in confidence and my dream is to join the Met in the future.

Kingston Police Cadets 3Robyn Skivens

16 years old

I have been a cadet for 1 year and I joined because I am interested in becoming a Police Officer. I enjoy hearing about and getting the chance to see the many different departments within the Met and I am really interested in dog handling and firearms.

I was very lucky to go on the cadet camp in North Wales this summer during the school hols. It was a chance to get to know other cadets better and work as a team to complete many different activities, including coasteering and sea kayaking.

I am also doing my Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award. That is great fun and I am keen to go on and do Silver in the future.

Kingston Police Cadets 4Danielle Needham

16 years old

I have been a cadet for 1 year and joined as I hope for a career in the Police Service in the future. I have been involved in working at the London Marathon and doing my Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award, but the highlight so far has been the summer camp trip to North Wales.

"This is one of the best things I have done at cadets and it was very tiring but very enjoyable."
I am keen to work my way up the cadet ranks, gaining confidence and knowledge. I am really enjoying my time as a cadet.
