Capoeira - The Afro-Brazilian Art
Capoeira is an unique martial art, born out of oppression and slavery over 400 years ago. It is the epitome of a vibrant Brazilian culture which is rapidly becoming the fitness trend of the 21st Century around the world and especially here in the UK.
This unique art is now a part of mainstream pop and movie culture with Capoeira appearing in movies such as ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Blade’, ‘Ocean’s 12’, ‘Mission Impossible 2’, and ‘Cat Woman’, to name but a few. Capoeira also appears regularly in MTV pop videos and PlayStation games.
What does Capoeira help develop?
Capoeira is a fusion of fitness, acrobatics, self-defense, dance and music (instruments playing/singing).
Capoeira is a plethora of disciplines which build/develop:

What can you expect in a Capoeira workshop?
Capoeira workshop is a mixture of:
- fitness
- dance
- acrobatics
- martial art acrobatic kicks
- music
- history
The workshop is as follows:
- 10-15 min warm up and stretches (with games sometimes)
- defense movements
- kicks (no contact)
- Capoeira acrobatics
- combination of movements
- sequence creation
- RODA (when 2 people perform together the movements to live Capoeira music)

Adults class - Mondays and Wendnesays 7.15pm to 9pm -
Children class
- Mondays and Wednesdays, 4.30-5.30pm at St. John the Baptist Church.
- Tuesdays 4.30pm-5.30pm at Esporta Health Club, Richmond Road, Kingston.
Prices
Adults - £10 per session or £50 monthly.
Students - £7 per session or £40 monthly.
Children - £35 (6 weeks).
