UK Youth Parliament's National Campaigns

The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) enables young people to use their energy and passion to change the world for the better. Run by young people for young people, UKYP provides opportunities for 11 to 18-year-olds to use their voice in creative ways to bring about social change.
In April 2009's "Battle of the Campaigns", the UKYP's campaign priorities for the year were decided in a national vote. The top topics were taken to the House of Lords where Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) debated and voted.
On 30th October 2009, for the first time people other than MPs were allowed to debate in the House of Commons and sit on the green benches as over 300 MYPs debated issues of concern for young people across the UK. See the link to the press coverage at the bottom of the page.
The current official UK Youth Parliament campaigns are:
Transport
Fares Fair!
The UKYP will campaign to introduce a National Concession Card that would entitle all young people to reduced fares on buses. While young people in London get free travel on London buses, prices vary in other towns across the country. Free or reduced fares would give young people more access to leisure and other facilities.
Abolish University Tuition Fees
Free for all!
Do you agree that all young people across the UK should have access to University education regardless of their wealth or socio-economic class? In Scotland, University tuition fees have already been abolished and grants restored, but elsewhere in the country students leaving University end up in debt, owing an average of over £9000 worth of fees.
Political Education
Value the Vote
‘Value the Vote’ recognises that there is huge voter apathy, disengagement and lack of understanding for the political spheres. Yet at the same time, we realise that we are one of the most democratic countries of the world. This campaign aims to teach young people everything from the importance of their vote, how they can get involved in the democratic process, to how Government passes legislation and what that legislation means to them!
