UKYP at the House of Commons

By Tessa Tyler Todd
On the 30th of October the UK Youth Parliament made history by being the first non MPs in the history of the House of Commons to debate in the chamber.
I was elected by London Youth Parliament as their debate lead, which meant I had to perform the wind up speech for one of the debates. I decided to do the “Economy and job opportunities” debate. The speaker called my speech both “forceful” and “impassioned.”
The fact that I was about to stand up and make history meant I was extremely nervous but the atmosphere created by everyone on the day made sure that I was fine. This historic day is a reason why young people should get involved with Kingston Youth Council and UK Youth Parliament; we get the chance to make a real difference and our views do get heard.
