The Duke of Edinburgh's Open Award at Albany Park
Albany Park Canoe and Sailing Centre works closely with groups, schools and individuals undertaking ‘The Award’. We work hard to assist young people in achieving their objectives and developing new skills, whilst encouraging participants to accept real ownership of their award throughout the training and completion stages of the scheme.
Drawing on the expertise available from the staff team at Albany Park Canoe and Sailing Centre undoubtedly gives participants the ideal start to their award. We offer expert tuition and opportunities to undertake a wide range of activities to complete the Physical Recreation Section and Expedition sections of the award.
Award participants may wish to access Albany in order to take on a new skill for the physical recreation section of their award. This is possible using a range of options maybe by working towards a Governing body award such as a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) or British Canoe Union (BCU) award or by undertaking training at taster level in a range of different water sports, the choice is yours.
Many Award participants take to the hills thinking this is the only option open to them as a means of completing their expedition section. At Albany Park there are a few other options available. Over the years many groups have completed the expedition section of the award on water, mostly using Open Canoes. At the Bronze award level, for example, you will take part in a training programme covering open canoe training and expedition techniques, equipping you with the skills to complete your Physical recreation section and Expedition section of the award.
If you would like to find out more about the award and the opportunities available to complete your Award at Albany Park please contact Jon Handley on 020 8549 3066 or email
