Saying Goodbye Project
Supporting you when someone close has died
Has someone close to you died? Are you feeling any of these?
- Hurt
- Confused
- Guilty
- Relieved
- Angry
- Worried
- Frightened
- Regretful
- Sad
- Lonely
These can all be usual reactions to bereavement even if it happened a long time ago. You may also experience feelings of going mad, or have no feelings - a kind of numbness.
The Saying Goodbye Project is available to help you. This may be by offering you information or advice or by having someone to talk to in confidence.
‘The Saying Goodbye Project has helped me a lot. I was so depressed and wound up and didn’t know who to talk to at the time, until I was told by a teacher that she could set me up with a counsellor. I could choose to see them at home or at school, and once I decided, we met up in school within a week.
‘I saw a woman who helped me out straight away, letting me get my feelings and thoughts out into the blue. Previously, a few years ago my mum and auntie had died within a year of each other. I was finding it hard to cope with all the coursework, school and social issues that I had on my mind, and didn’t want to upset my dad. The first time I met Lesley, she was there to listen to me and really helped me to cope with school and at home.’
Nicholas, 15 years old
