Private Fostering
Are you living with another family or a friend?
If you are under 16 or 18 if you are disabled, and living with someone who is not your parent or a close relative for 28 days or more, it is called private fostering. A close relative is a step-parent, a grandparent, a brother or sister or an aunt or uncle. It can also mean a legal guardian or someone with parental responsibility.
You are not in private fostering if you are being looked after by an approved foster carer.
If you are, Kingston Council needs to know about it
The law says Kingston Council needs to know about any private fostering arrangement in the borough. It’s up to your parents or your carer to let us know. They also have to tell us if you move on to live somewhere else.
What we will do
We will make sure you are safe, well looked after and that your needs are being met. We will also offer the person looking after you advice and support
